DONCASTER SECONDARY COLLEGE CHAPLAIN KRISSY VEERHUIS AT PILGRIM

Pilgrim is a supporter of the Access Ministeries Chaplaincy at Doncaster Secondary College.

On 24 May 2009 we were delighted to welcome the Chaplain, Krissy Veerhuis, as guest preacher at both the 9.30 am and 11.00 am Worship Services.

PILGRIM CARE AND SHARE IN LENT APPEAL 2009

Pilgrim supported the following two projects during Lent 2009.
 

1. Habitat For Humanity International (including Australia)

Habitat is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty, housing and homelessness from the world and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

The current Australian building programme includes housing for families forced into the "poverty trap" through lack of income, jobs and opportunities, in all states, and rebuilding for the recent bushfire victims.

A typical Habitat house build costs $100,000, of which :
$1300 provides tiles and carpet or bricks for a build
$650 provides internal plaster & paint
$130 provides internal doors  etc.

2. Mobile Health Clinics in Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is the largest developing country in the South Pacific region yet its population has only limited primary health care. Infectious diseases are claiming many lives, and there are serious public health risks such as malaria and HIV/AIDS.

The Uniting Church Overseas Aid mobile health program provides care to poor rural residents who would otherwise go undiagnosed and untreated because of the inhibitive cost of travel to clinics.

$50 provides one tank of fuel for a dinghy
$200 provides vaccine storage
