THE GROVE UNITING CHURCH, BOX HILL NORTH |
The small congregation at The Grove Uniting Church, Box
Hill North had been without a Minister since 1st September 2002. Some of our
leaders met with representatives from The UCA Presbytery of Bourke on Friday
14th February 2003 to assist in strategic thinking about the shape of their
future. After careful consideration by both Church Councils and Congregational
Meetings, this led very happily, to:
AN AGREEMENT TO FORM A LINKED CONGREGATION RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GROVE
UNITING CHURCH, BOX HILL NORTH AND PILGRIM UNITING CHURCH, DONCASTER - EFFECTIVE
1st MAY 2003
We agreed:
 | to enter a 'Linked Congregation Relationship' (cf Reg
3.1.3a) to support ministry at The Grove effective from 1st May 2003 |
 | to assist in the resourcing of a six monthly preaching
plan offering a worship leader/preacher for up to three Sundays per month
|
 | that each Church Council establish a seat on our
respective councils for one representative from the partner church |
 | that the existing Pastoral team at The Grove will
continue its ongoing pastoral ministry and Pilgrim will cover pastoral
emergencies and funerals as requested |
 | that Pilgrim members will welcome appropriate
remuneration for their ministry at the rates recommended by Synod for
Occasional Supply by Ministers. |
 | that a Linked Congregation Steering Committee be set up
(3 representatives from each church) to give oversight to the development of
the partnership for ministry |
After each congregation formally endorsed the Agreement,
it was approved by both the Presbytery Pastoral Relations Committee and the
Synod Placements Committee.
The Linked Congregation Steering Committee meets as needed
on the first Wednesdays of the month at 4pm. The Pilgrim representatives are
Megan Coote and Patsy Haywood.
A review, conducted after the first six months of
partnership, has found this arrangement to be working very satisfactorily for
all concerned. The current Pilgrim team assisting with worship leading/preaching
includes Megan Coote, David Small and Meredith Small. All of us are glad to be serving God
in this particular ministry as we support a neighbouring congregation through
this partnership.
